TECHNICAL PROBLEM HELP
The following technical issues are covered on this
page. If you need a hint, go here. If none of
the above deal with your game problem, please go here
to report it.
When I try to
install the game, I get an error: "MFC42.DLL not found."
This bug happens if you have an older version of Windows 95 without any
updates. You just need to follow the directions below to download this
file.
Step #1 If you have not installed the game, please do the following
first:
Insert your Saints of Virtue CD into your CD-ROM drive. Go to Start->Run.
Select Browse... Then choose your CD-ROM drive. Select the SETUP program.
Click on open to run that. After the game is installed, do the same
above Start->Run->Browse->CD ROM drive-> and then open the
DIRECTX directory by double-clicking. Choose the DXSETUP program. Run
that. Now the game is ready to be run after you follow the next steps.
Step #2 Copy the MFC42.DLL file to your computer.
Right click on the following. MFC42.DLL
Then select Save Link As(Netscape) or Save Target As(Internet Explorer).
In the "Save As..." window, select the drive letter at top
where you installed Saints of Virtue. Then choose the Saints of Virtue
directory. Then click SAVE. This MFC42.DLL file will be saved there.
It will take about 3-10 minutes to download depending on your connection
speed.
Step #3 Run the game.
You should be able to now run the game. If you do experience problems,
please see above. Or you can write us at this e-mail
and we will try to fix this problem for you.

When I run
the game, it crashes
This problem is most likely caused by your video or audio card. We have
found that if the user does not have the latest audio and video drivers,
they have problems with the DirectX system. Follow the steps below to
check your system:
#1. Make sure you install DirectX 6.1 from the Saints CD. Run start.exe
from the CD to install it, or you can directly install it from the CD
under the \DirectX directory and run the program DXSETUP.EXE.
#2. Update your sound and graphics card drivers. Many manufacturers
have a website with the latest drivers. If you would like a list, please
go here.
#3. Some video and audio cards do not work with DirectX. It is because
these are old or out-dated cards. For a list of problem cards, please
go here.
You can also visit the Microsoft Directx Support site and find more
info about troubleshooting your audio or video card.

I do not hear
any sound
If you don't hear any sounds while playing Saints of Virtue, please
check the following:
- Another application you are running may have control of the sound
hardware. Quit from Saints of Virtue, close the other application,
and restart the game.
- Make sure the volume is turned up and the speakers are plugged into
the right output of the sound card.
- You must have a DirectX supported sound card installed. Check here
to see problem audio and sound cards.
- Your drivers for you audio card may not be up to date. Please go
here to go to the website for your audio cards.

The screen is
too dark
The game has dark places in it and that is normal. However, if it is too
dark so you cannot see most of the time, then you need to adjust your monitor.
You need to adjust the brightness and contrast levels of your monitor. Most
monitors have controls on the front, sometimes behind a panel. While you
are playing the game and in a dark area, turn up the brightness control
your monitor some. For some monitors (especially older ones...they lose
their brightness), you may have to turn it up all the way. Then, turn the
contrast control down some so the screen is not bright.
Additionally, you may need to make sure that no light from an outside
source is causing glare problems on your monitor. Close the shades or
curtains if possible.
Finally, in the game, you can find a Brightness setting within the Options
menu. This is for small adjustments of the brightness. You can change
it to lighter or darker.

The game runs
very slow on my computer
The game allows up to 3 different graphics modes:
640x480, 320x400, and 320x200. On certain video cards, the 320x400 is
not available in Windows. You can select the graphics mode from the Title
menu under "Select Screen Mode." Additionally, if you are running in the
640x480 graphics mode, you can resize the dimensions of the screen by
the "Change Screen Size" selection in the Options menu or you can hit
the F8 key while
playing the game.
The default graphics mode is 640x480 unless the
program determines your computer seems slow, then it selects 320x200 as
the default. A Pentium/166 or better should be able to run the 640x480
adequately, while a 486/50 or better should be able to run the 320x200
mode adequately. However, if you have a slower video card, slow
memory, or hardware conflicts then you may have to run a lower video mode
for adequate performance.

After playing
the game for awhile, it slows down and is "choppy"
If after playing the game for several hours at one time, a few users have
reported that the game slows down. If this does happen, just save your
game, exit out of the game, and then start the game again and restore
the saved game. If this does not improve the performance of the game,
please write and tell us where you are in the game and what you have experienced.

I can walk
through walls in the game
On some computers in certain rare situations, your character may begin
to walk through solid walls and/or float off the ground. It is common
that the game will not run properly from that point forward. If this happens,
get out of the wall by walking back to the path or corridor and then press
the "F" key (for fix). If this does not solve the problem, it is recommended
that you restore your last saved game.

I cannot see
or hear the intro movie play
Please make sure your audio and video are setup correctly (See above).
If you still have a problem, please report it to us at: help@SaintsOfVirtue.com

When I start
the game, I just spin around
This problem may be caused by your joystick or gamepad not being centered
properly. If you have a joystick, you can center it by going to the Control
Panel (Start->Settings->Control Panel) and then choose Game Controllers.
Select your joystick or gamepad from the list and select Properties. Then
run the Calibrate option to center it.
Another possible cause of the problem is that a key on your keyboard
may be stuck. If so, try hitting the arrow keys several times. If that
does not work, finally, switch out of the program with Alt-TAB and then
switch back in.
If neither of these solve your problem, then go here.

My joystick
or gamepad does not work very well with the game
You should check your joystick or gamepad and make sure it is configured
correctly. Go to the Control Panel (Start->Settings->Control Panel) and
then choose Game Controllers. Select your joystick or gamepad from the
list and select Properties. Run the Calibrate and Test functions. If you
are still having problems, then go here.
